# Email or Telegram: Where Do B2B Buyers Reply More?

Neither email nor Telegram produces a universally higher reply rate. Email is better for systematic, measurable coverage of companies; Telegram is better for a quick personal conversation when you have identified the right decision-maker. Choose the first channel based on contact availability, the cost of getting it wrong, and the response you need first.

**Figures:** 5.93% — of contacted companies replied across our email campaigns; 97.7% — of addresses accepted an email across our campaigns; 6,500 — explicit yeses across our email campaigns

## Define a reply before comparing channels

A Telegram and an email reply cannot be compared honestly as one number. In a chat, someone may ask who you are or leave a reaction; in email, they may forward the message internally without replying. For a commercial decision, separate three events: the contact saw the approach, started a relevant conversation, and asked for details, a proposal or a meeting. We treat the last of these as an explicit yes.

From April 2025 through July 2026, we sent 3,224,000 emails to 811,200 companies. A total of 48,100 companies replied, and 6,500 contacts explicitly requested more information, a proposal or a meeting. This is a summary of our email campaigns only, not a forecast for your offer or for Telegram.

If a provider reports only messages sent or replies marked as interested, ask for the breakdown: how many conversations reached qualification, and how many contacts declined after the first question.

## Email and Telegram have different jobs in the first message

| Criterion | Email | Telegram |
|---|---|---|
| Who you contact | Companies and roles through business email addresses | A specific person, where their account is found and accessible |
| First touch | A concise email with a subject line, context and a clear question | A personal message without attachments or a long presentation |
| Working the list | Suitable for a broad company sample and several roles | Requires checking each profile and whether the approach is appropriate |
| Testing a hypothesis | Lets you separate subjects, segments and wording in distinct waves | Best for testing a specific reason to contact a narrow list of decision-makers |
| Contact risk | Poor data can cause bounces and damage sender reputation | An intrusive pace or repeated messages can lead to account restrictions |
| Continuing the conversation | Convenient for a calculation, specification, case material or adding a colleague | Convenient for quickly clarifying the situation and agreeing a next step |

Email starts with the company: you can establish its business profile, region and relevant roles, then locate a work address. Telegram starts with the person: you need to avoid confusing a namesake, former employee or private profile with the current decision-maker. That is why [B2B lead list building](/en/services/lead-list-building/) looks different for each channel.

For an industrial equipment supplier, an email might ask: “We saw that you operate an in-house repair workshop and machine fleet. Who assesses replacement tooling when the current supplier misses delivery dates?” In Telegram, the same idea should be shorter: “Ivan, we saw you have an in-house repair workshop. Do you usually handle tooling questions, or is that the chief mechanic’s area?” The second version does not try to sell a catalogue in the first message.

## Why email is usually for coverage and Telegram for clarification

Email gives you a manageable route through a company. If the commercial director does not respond, you can check another relevant role in sales, procurement, production or IT. A bounce does not mean the company is unsuitable; it means that particular address did not accept the message. Across our campaigns, 97.7% of addresses accepted an email, so list quality and verification affect whether a conversation is possible at all.

Telegram is useful when you already have a reason to write to that individual: they spoke at an industry event, are hiring for a relevant role, opened a new branch or discussed a business task publicly. “Hello, we offer services” does not create such a reason. It reads as mass outreach even when sent manually.

A weak sequence is sending a lengthy presentation by email, receiving no reply, then writing in Telegram the next day: “Please check your email.” The decision-maker has no reason to open an unfamiliar message. A better sequence is to use email for the subject and details, then use Telegram after an appropriate interval to ask one question about the situation: “Alexey, we sent a note about equipping a new warehouse. Is this in your area, or should we speak with the logistics lead?”

This order is especially useful in [multi-channel outreach](/en/services/multichannel-outreach/), where channels support one route to a conversation instead of duplicating the same message.

## What the cost consists of without inventing a cost per lead

For email, the main cost areas are finding and verifying addresses, sender infrastructure, technical setup, sequence preparation and reply handling. You cannot assess cost from one sent email alone: a message without an accepted address, a clear offer and a manager ready to respond does not create a sales opportunity. Assess the economics from gross profit on a signed deal, not from a desired number of leads.

Telegram does not require the same email infrastructure, but it creates more expensive manual work: finding the right profile, confirming it belongs to the intended person, forming a personal reason to write, maintaining an appropriate pace and managing the correspondence. If your product needs a demonstration, specification and several approvers, chat does not replace email; documents are still easier to send by email.

1. Define the cost of one mistake: is it worse to lose a sender address or to irritate a specific decision-maker?
2. Check whether you have evidence for a personal reason to contact someone, rather than only a company name and job title.
3. Choose the first-touch channel, then assign who will answer a request for more details during working hours.

## Who should start with email and who should start with a personal chat

Start with email if you have many potential companies, can explain the offer in a few lines and expect several roles to influence the decision. This is common for integrators, manufacturers, B2B SaaS companies and service providers with a long sales cycle: an email leaves a record that can be forwarded and discussed internally. See [B2B email outreach](/en/services/email-outreach/) for the launch format.

Use Telegram first if your list is short, decision-makers are visibly active in the messenger and your reason to contact them relates to a current situation. For example, a recruiting firm may write to a leader with relevant open roles, or a logistics provider to a company opening a new route or warehouse. This is not a Telegram blast; it is a series of careful personal approaches. [Telegram outreach](/en/services/telegram-outreach/) needs its own operating rules.

- Choose email when you need to test companies and several roles systematically.
- Choose Telegram when you know the specific decision-maker and have an observable reason to start a conversation.
- Use both when email carries the evidence and chat helps find the right participant in the decision.

## When email and Telegram will not work

Neither channel fixes an offer that takes an hour-long presentation to explain or gives the recipient no reason to reply now. Do not contact an entire list if you cannot state who the product is for, which specific problem it removes and what the person receives after replying. “We improve business efficiency” works neither as an email subject nor as a personal chat opener.

Email is not the only channel to use when corporate addresses are unavailable and the decision sits with an owner who communicates only in a messenger. Telegram is not suitable when contacts were collected at random, profiles are unconfirmed or the offer requires broad market testing. We are not a fit if you expect a guaranteed volume of leads without access to product expertise and without a sales-side person ready to take a substantive conversation.

Before a launch, use a [free cold outreach audit](/en/free-audit/) to examine your starting data and the weak point in the current process. If outbound contact is not the right answer, it is better to establish that before preparing the list and messages.

## Frequently asked questions

**Where do B2B buyers reply more often: Telegram or email?**

You cannot name a winner in advance because the channels create different kinds of contact and begin with different data. Email is easier to compare by contacted companies; 5.93% of contacted companies replied across our email campaigns. We do not use that figure as a Telegram forecast.

**Can I send the same message by email and Telegram?**

Usually, no. An email can carry context, a link and details, while a Telegram message should quickly explain why you are writing to this particular person. A word-for-word duplicate usually looks automated.

**Which channel should I use for the first test of a new B2B product?**

If you need to learn which companies respond to the hypothesis at all, email is usually the better starting point because you can structure the sample by segment. If you have a small set of well-known accounts and a personal reason to contact each one, Telegram can work. Do not combine results from both channels into one conversion rate.

**Do I need Telegram if email outreach is already running?**

Not necessarily. Telegram is useful when you have confirmed decision-maker profiles at selected accounts and can continue the email with a relevant question. Without that reason, improve the list, offer or handling of email replies first.

**What happens after someone asks for more details?**

That reply is not a completed deal. A manager clarifies the person’s role, current task, timing and next step, then passes a qualified conversation to sales. The handoff can be defined in advance through [CRM integration](/en/services/crm-integration/).
